Is that good for your car?
Every listing shows the company's lab figure. Pick your car to see its estimated mileage in city traffic, on the highway, with a full car, and on E20 petrol.
Nothing matches that. Clear the filters or try another name.
Mileage by brand
Why the numbers here are lower
The ARAI figure is measured on a lab cycle, not in traffic. A car rated at 25 kmpl does not give 25 kmpl in a city with signals, a boot full of luggage and the AC running. This site scales the rating to estimate city, mixed and highway mileage, so you get a number you can plan around. See exactly how.
And what E20 changed
Pumps in India have been required to sell E20 petrol since 1 April 2026 (ETV Bharat). Ethanol carries less energy per litre, and ARAI's laboratory tests put the mileage drop at 2% to 6% (PIB). Every petrol page here lets you switch the blend and see the difference.
How to calculate mileage
Mileage = distance driven ÷ fuel used. In km per litre (kmpl) for petrol and diesel, km per kg for CNG.
Cost per km = fuel price ÷ mileage.
The most accurate way to get the two numbers is the full tank method:
- Fill the tank to full and reset the trip meter to zero.
- Drive normally until the tank is at least half empty.
- Fill to full again, ideally at the same pump, and note the litres.
- Divide the trip meter reading by those litres.
The figure on your dashboard is an estimate from the car's computer and usually reads a little high. The full tank method measures what actually went into the tank.
Questions people ask
How do you calculate mileage?
Divide the distance you drove by the fuel you used. 300 km on 20 litres is 300 ÷ 20 = 15 km per litre (kmpl). The calculator above does this for you.
How do I calculate mileage per litre with the full tank method?
Fill the tank to full and reset the trip meter. Drive as you normally do. Fill to full again at the same pump and note the litres it took. Those litres are what you used, so divide the trip meter reading by them.
How do I calculate fuel cost per km?
Divide the fuel price by your mileage. At ₹105 a litre and 15 kmpl, every kilometre costs ₹105 ÷ 15 = ₹7.
How do I calculate bike or scooter mileage?
The same way as a car: kilometres divided by litres. Bike tanks are small, so one fill gives a rough figure. Average two or three full tanks for a reliable one.
How is CNG mileage calculated?
CNG is sold by the kilogram, so divide the kilometres by the kg filled to get km/kg. km/kg and kmpl are different units, so compare petrol and CNG on cost per km instead.
Is petrol average the same as mileage?
Yes. "Average" is what most people in India call mileage. Both mean kilometres per litre, and this calculator gives the same number for either.
